When you read headlines like : "Palestinian kills 14 year old child with a pick ax..." it is hard to feel any remorse for the Palestinian people. But that is just the problem with America and the American media.
If you travel or live outside the country, as I have, you will see with Al Jazeera, the BBC, etc., that the Palestinian's arent always the bad guys. True, Hamas are terrorists and must revoke their charter and recognize the state of Israel. True, the Palestinian people were desperate to elect Hamas in the first place; but that is just it my friend, they ARE desperate. Desperate for peace, desperate to be heard, desperate to send their child to school without strapping a bullet proof vest on them; desperate to feed their aching bellies and to bandage their bleeding wounds.
If you believe everything you read, hear and see in the American media, you would think that the Israeli's are all loving people who want peace and never are the perpetrators in any violent situation; they are simply defending themselves. Although when it comes to dealings with Hamas this might be true; it is not true in dealing with the Palestinian population as a whole. The problem, as one of my callers so eloquently illustrated on my talk program Thursday evening, is that Americans view Palestinians as all supporters of Hamas; ergo they are all terrorists. They are all the bad guys.
We need more "fair and balanced" reporting in our media with regards to the middle east; and I'm not talking the fair balance Fox News Channel gives you. We need the facts from both sides so we can determine the truth and form our opinions based on that truth. In the case of Israel, it is certainly not a "liberal" media. There can never be peace in the middle east if America continues to bankroll Israel. There can never be peace in the middle east if Americans continue their hatred toward Palestinians. There can never be peace in the middle east without truth, plain and simple.

ReplyDeleteMy involvement with the tea party is this: Our government no longer supports and obeys the constitution. It has no business bailing out companies, running companies, or even tweaking the economy. It is NOT their job. When you have a free market society, government intervention squelches the system.
PS. I am a democrat. In case you still don't get it, this is not about party.
Thank you for this rare voice of reason from the American point of view! In my blog, I try and highlight news items I like, stuff that annoys me, etc about American coverage and attitudes on this Israeli Palestinian issue. Americans don't understand the complexity. They want GWB's simple good vs. evil worldview. Worse, they don't care-- if they cared, perhaps that would lead to research and understanding. Then, we'd have to turn our politics on it's head though, and that would be too scary for most... So... down with truth and understanding! Ignorance is bliss. Until Israel really screws us over- I mean worse than constantly stealing classified info, stealing tech/weapons info and selling it back to us, witholding intel, and bombing the USS Liberty. Then we might want to wise up and rethink the special relationship.

Isresl has always and will continue to scram people, they are only a scaming nation...Palestine was all ways there and always will be there no matter what isreal wants, so srew them! They continue to hurt us and they build on our land there rude to AMERICANS, and like my teacher says WAR WILL ALWAYS COME IF 1 PERSON/TRIBE THINK THAT THEY ARE BETTER!!!! ReplyDeleteIt isn't about bad guys and good guys, it's about conflicting cultures. I think you must have a basic understanding of the history and education systems in both countries to really understand what is happening. Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza are taught to hate Jews and western culture. Martyrs are legends and Palestinian culture at large glorifies violence and death. Israel's education system is modern. Children in Israeli schools sing songs that "pray for peace." The children of both Gaza and the West Bank sing songs about the blood of their glorious martyrs and the plague of the "pig" Jews who stole their land. By law, the holocaust cannot even be mentioned in Islamic countries where a majority of citizens deny the death of six million Jews at the hands of their great "friend" Adolf Hitler. In addition, over 4000 years of indigenous Jewish history in Israel is non-existent. As a woman go to Palestine. Not as journalist who only gets sanitized versions of reality. Go covered head to toe and observe. Then dress in the clothes you wear at home and go to Israel. The difference between the two cultures will be self-evident. As a westerner you must spend an extended period of time in the Middle East. If you do not, your modern mind will not be able grasp the reality of Islamic culture even at its most basic level.
ReplyDeletethe difference in the fighting tactics between israel and palistines are that one targets innocent people with explosives, and the other targets terrorists. you may be tempted to say that innocent people still die either way, but motive is everything in determining who's defending, and who's attacking.
ReplyDeletePalestine is the bad guy no question. They are run by terrorists who continually fire rockets into civilian cities and use suicide bombers to blow up children. They are the aggressors. Israel was given to the jews by england, the U.N. and God. The jews were there way before the palestinians. The palestinians themselves aren't a real race. They are the same arabs that live in jordan lebanon and syria. They have been kicked out of those countries for being evil people.
